Of late I find myself speculating about the creatures that live miserable existences in the shadows, terribly afraid of the light of Truth and Honor. What is a hag? What is a troll? What do they look like, and why do they insist on wallowing in haggy-trolldom when all it would take is living with enough honor to leave the stench and desperation of draining others dry behind?
I've always held the publishing world in the highest esteem because it brought me the world. Every time I opened a book, moved on through the action packed chapters, I have blessed the many elements that brought this work of imagination into my hands. Imagine my disappointment when I learn there are trolls and hags lurking in the publishing world just waiting to feed off of the creativity of others turning geniuses into indentured slaves.
How can this be? Where are the watchdogs? Can the publishing world not scalpel their way through the Quacks among them?
If any of you reading this blog know WHO police the publishing world, please leave a comment. There are a lot of us out here that would like to know.

Gee I wonder who you could be talking about!
Let me count the many possibilities...hmm...the list could be long...longer than I had ever anticipated, but now that I am communicating with other authors, I am learning there are a lot of less than scrupulous shadow dwellers in the publishing world...and if they were not filling me in, there's always Predators and Editors. Lordy but there are a LOT of trolls and hags out there.
I can't answer your question, but I can agree with you. It's a shame so many are like that. What possesses them? I mean seriously, what thrill do they get by screwing authors over? Is it a power play? Better than thou?
I could add a few names to that list. :)
unfortunately the publishing world isn't any different than anything else in the world. there's always someone looking for a way to take something good and find a way to steal from it. we could, of course, look at the different government agencies, but we won't. let's just say i know people who really have a bad back who can't get help while those who claim to and don't do.
You so do not want me to get on the subject of government!
Lin, are you the Erin Brokovich of the publishing industry?! You should be! I think it's your calling, other than writing, of course. :)
Welcome to the real world, dear.
I spent eleven years married to a vicious federal agent who hid his behavior behind the gleam of his badge. The publishing trolls and hags are gnats compared to that. Believe me Annie, the real world has nothing on my ex...thankfully the law finally DID catch up to him...2o years after I managed to get away...and God knows how many victims later. I DID accomplish something...I took his badge and his power when I went to his Internal Affairs..course it put me in more danger, but I came to the conclusion he could only PHSYCIALLY kill me once. The trolls and hags are weak NOTHINGS, by comparison...
Congratulations, Lin for taking control of your life AND also having the courage to do something about your ex. I however was referring to the real world of publishing. Like all industries/religions/governments/sports/media/etc. in life, there is always a seamy underside that is seldom revealed to the general public.
It is a wise individual who takes nothing for granted when embarking on a new endeavor. I suspect you are such an individual.
Do I get a prize if I guess correctly?
Am I getting a prize for whispering a name into your ear???
Take care
Tanja
